The two teams at the top of the ADF South after week one clashed at The Middle Ground with both knowing that a win would put them five points clear of the defending champion Revengers' Tragedy. Having recorded their first victory over the Tragedy in week one the Missiles came into the match full of confidence but the Principals were also boosted by a first week victory over the Panzerbourne.
The match was controlled throughout by the Principals not least through a team high 61 Blocks thrown but they proved unable to score. It was a match in which the Chaos Gods took a close interest, a dramatic change of field condition saw the turf cut up and lead to some bizarre ricochets of the ball. Rudolf Nureyev was unfortunate in the first half not to score but his drive into the corner was ended by a fall into an open pit. Nureyev would later badly hurt himself while attempting to leap team-mate Hoody McIcky though it was not all bad as he achieved a first career Casualty thanks to a rabid terracing attack on Jane. Missiles star player Billy Mahonie took part only in the opening drive due to what has been described by team officials as an unfortunate illness.
The only score of the game came on a broken play, Goale Ong who extended his streak of rushing attempts to 17 games fell over in the process of making a pass. The Principals pushed forward to collect the ball and counter-attack but Skipper also found the footing treacherous and could not maintain balance allowing Ong to recover, pass upfield to veteran player Kinochit and provide Johnny Danger with an open goal line for the score.
David Varney of the Missiles missed the match as a result of being press-ganged prior to the Tragedy game in week one.
Missiles Black Orc Two Jabz passed through the 100 Blocks mark in his career during the game, the second Missiles player to reach that mark. Principals players Rudolf Nureyev and Mina Murray both achieved career milestones in rushing yards, Nureyev now has in excess of 200 yards while Mina has rushed for over 100 yards.
