Another capacity 50,000 crowd piled into Legends Stadium to see the arrival of the experienced ADA East side The Darkstalkers. With the Legends having picked up their first ever point last week against Casus Belli, the team look to be settling into the league but understandably they found things difficult against the side that defeated the Fabienettes in week two.
Though the home side received the first kick-off, it was the visitors that were first onto the scoreboard. A fumble in the backfield, followed by a phantom flying fist turned the ball over and veteran Dark Elf Peln'taro took advantage to run the ball in for an early touchdown. The Legends were unable to respond before the half despite putting a good drive together with Thrower Ringo Starr very nearly setting Norse Catcher Charlie Watts free but it was not to be and the score remained 0-1 at the break.
The offensive power of The Darkstalkers was too much for the Legends defence at the start of the second half. Free scoring Gutter Runner Splinter out-paced the defenders for the touchdown. Of arguably more interest though was the play of Kroxigor Fido "Crackabone" Muncher who became the first player ever to add two separate players into the Shrine in a single game. Just before the half, he caught Nick Mason with a thunderous block, the rookie clearly out of his depth in terms of power and condition, and paying for it with his life. After the break, Muncher took out Roger Taylor. Adopting the three-point stance with both hands in the air, Muncher was able to react quickly to the second half whistle and lifted clean up into Taylor who was caught below the chin and never regained consciousness.
The Legends kept gamely on and came close again to scoring at the end of the game but the attack petered out with the ball ripped from Lineman Harvey Mason's grasp by Darkstalkers Lineman Luciferase. The Darkstalker had put a huge hit on Charlie Watts earlier during the drive and it was thanks to medical attention that he didn't become the third player to die in the game.
Darkstalkers Goblin Skriver, and Norse Thrower Aaaarne "The Launcher" both missed the game with existing niggling injuries.
