The league leading Hotspur Hacks entertained Team Stupidity while boasting a proud record of not dropping a point to date against a rival from the ADF East. The opening match between the two sides had ended 3-1 to the Hacks but with Stupidity having reduced them to a mere three players on the pitch. Since then the Hacks have been near unstoppable including a 3-1 win over the Picklebury Panthers last time out. Stupidity achieved a creditable draw against an underperforming Langdon Christ-Punchers side in week four.
The match was cued up to be a violent one from the opening bell when the home fans badly hurt referee Barry Spite. In return, the visitors looked to take the initiative through some dirty tactics as an assassin's dart stunned Hacks Ogre Paxman but it did not put much of a dent in the home team's first drive. High Elf Sparrow Keane completing a quick pass to Amazon Catcher Valentine Kelly who was unchecked in her race for the opening score. On the way the Hacks secured the first casualty of the game as well with Robby Wyman the Gnoll injuring Lineman Ravage Meplz with a nasty foul. The Hacks continued to press forward on the next drive, managing to get to the ball before Stupidity had gotten out of the blocks. Despite an effort from Blitzer Pedwino Girlie-Man to halt the charge, Catcher Scoop Sopwith out-ran what should have been the offence and in a blink, it was 2-0 to the Hacks. The home team were also leading on the casualty front with more fouling damage and a drastic rethink was needed for Team Stupidity. That rethink nearly didn't happen as the Hacks again surged foward but Team Stupidity were able to put a methodical drive together until they were in range for Pedwino Girlie-Man to break from the pack and put one on the board for the visitors in what had been a rapid fire first period.
With a light dusting of snow to greet the players as they emerged for the second half with replacement referee Steve Benefit taking charge of proceedings, the visitors put the ball in the hands of main blocking weapon Cuddles the Minotaur. Cuddles blitzed his way forward but his ball-handling was compromised by the tackling ability of Valentine Kelly. The Amazon's hit clearly caught Stupidity off guard as she left the opposition behind. It was probably only the elements that prevented Kelly from scoring as she slid on the snow just as she was about to cross into the endzone. Stupidity were unable to clear their lines effectively and Lineman Face King was the man to take advantage thanks to a pass from Sparrow Keane that took him clear and across the line for the third Hacks score of the day. With the snow pelting down, neither side could move the ball again and the game ended with a comprehensive 3-1 victory for the team currently at the top of the overall standings.
