The first cross-conference match for the Langdon Christ-Punchers was also their first opportunity to parade in front of their home fans. They would be up against the New England Patriot Missiles in the match that carries the longest characters in its title ever. The Missiles come into the match with two straight wins including a memorable one against the defending champion Tragedy in week one. The Punchers have had a very mixed start including a 4-0 win over the Panthers, and then a 5-2 loss to the Hacks.
The game itself was a high scoring affair and that much was clear right from the off. The Missiles didn't take long to register the first touchdown through Catcher Johnny Danger, his second of the season. Not to be out-done, the Punchers hit back immediately through Yussef who bounced back from his disappointing game against the Hacks to take a pass from Learned Hand and turn it into a score. Surprisingly, the home side had the best of the opening blocking especially when Lineman Dave "The Paedo" badly hurt Missiles Orc Hacken Slazch. That physical superiority was turned into a superior scoreline thanks to a counter-attack score from Dante Steel who had been signed from the Missiles practice squad. The opportunity for a counter-attack had arisen thanks to a tackle from Daisy the Norse Blitzer as Johnny Danger appeared ready to double his own tally but instead the Punchers were able to move the ball nearly the length of the field for the go ahead score with little time for a Missiles response before the break.
The second half saw a slowdown in the scoring rate primarily as a result of the Punchers passing the ball around their players as if toying with their opponents. The showboating was nearly too much but a tackle from Wardancer Billy Mahonie was not enough to stop a drive that culminated in a score from Lineman Punchy McPunch. With the score at 3-1, a comeback would have been remarkable but that did not stop the Missiles from trying. Goblin Catcher Scratty Backflush received a pass from Goale Ong and converted it for his first ever touchdown. With little time remaining, the Punchers were able to hang on but only just as some further showboating was nearly punished but the Missiles could not get their hands on the ball despite a tackle from Jane and the game ended in a surprising 3-2 victory for the Punchers.
During the game, Goale Ong the Missiles inconsistent thrower exceeded 100 career passing yards.
The frequent passing from the Punchers means that Learned Hand is now only three completions away from equalling the single-season record despite only having a career of three games.
