Tempo Ray Mutineers 3-0 In D.A N/a Police Dolts

Week 5 21/09/03

Referee: Doobie Emuncher

Weather: Cloudy

Gate: 33k

Boasting a 100% record over the first half of the regular season, the Mutineers were in confident mood ahead of the visit of the Dolts. Having scraped a 1-0 win at The Cell in week 1, reports from the home camp suggested Mutiny Island would represent an intimidating backdrop to yet another glorious victory. Having picked up just one win so far and coming off a damaging loss to the Fabienettes the Dolts really needed something special to kick start their season. To do so against a Mutineers team coming off its biggest win so far in the week 4 game against the Mercenaries would be a major upset.

Sporadic fighting amongst the fans as they crammed into the stadium held up the kick-off but order was restored fairly swiftly thanks to the uniquely brutal justice system in force on the island. The riot wasn't enough to throw the Mutineers off their stride as they turned on the style early on. Team captain Savogand Thrall took the kick-off and set off to attack the right hand side of the defense. The Elf's cause was helped by his team-mate Kotek Gorefest the Beastman who lowered his head and blitzed defending Norse Blitzer Sven Andersson. The norseman took the horned charge squarely on the jaw and was badly hurt and out for the rest of the game having not managed a single play. The blow rocked the Dolts and left them weak on the flank the Mutineers had singled out for attack.

The defenders managed very little in reply. They didn't manage a single successful block before the next wave of devastating Mutineers blocking. Amazon Linewoman Joanie Brawler picked an interesting target for a block, referee Doobie Emuncher. The Amazon knocked the Goblin referee into the always hostile Mutiny Island crowd, badly hurting him in the process and claiming the first referee casualty of the season. Clearly observing the removal of the offical, Dwarf Longbeard Kerval Axebreaker hit his first foul of the season and a brutal one it was too. The Dwarf stomped Dolts Lineman Fabien Degravson in the face causing a potentially critical injury. Axebreaker was clearly getting carried away throwing fouls at every chance he got. Lineman "Rob's" Gay Dad took the brunt of the blows being badly hurt and out for the rest of the match. The Dolts had no real answer, the blocking units were depleated by the early casualties and they could not offer enough resistance to prevent Savogand Thrall from running through the backfield and across the line for the first score of the game.

Savogand's touchdown was the cue for further violence in the crowd as sporadic scuffles broke out in the crowd holding up the game once again. The delay allowed the Dolts medical staff to patch up enough bodies to put out 8 players for the next drive. The drive did not last long though. Salina Black received the kick but only managed to get one yard down the field before Toxix the Wight tackled the Wood Elf and effectively ended the play for the half.

At half-time a replacement referee, Mill Slain, was brought on to replace Doobie Emuncher who could not continue. At 1-0 down against a team that has only conceded a single touchdown so far this season, the Dolts needed something special to save the game and their entire season. With just 8 players thanks to the opening spree of violence the away team were always going to be up against it. Despite the personnel and score advantage, the Mutineers still employed deep cover as they were clearly wary of the potential quick strike threat of the Dolts. Unfortunately for the offense, the defensive counter-strike players were not set up in the deep. Salina Black was the victim once again as the Wood Elf took the kick-off and ran off down the Mutineers left flank. A total of 6 yards later, Savogand Thrall caught up with Salina and forced her second fumble of the game.

Covering Orc Blitzer Smack was unable to help his team-mate out as his handling failed. Mutineers Amazon Blitzer Boa Dicea took control of the ball, handed off to her compatriot Joanie Brawler and the pair sped into the Dolts half. The counter-attack is always difficult to defend against due to players being out of position and so it proved once again. The Dolts seemed almost resigned to their fate and having defended so valiantly for so long in the home fixture, the Dolts defence crumbled just like against the Fabienettes in week 4. Joanie Brawler was able to progress unchecked through the Dolts territory to claim an easy TD and put the result beyond doubt.

Accepting defeat, the Dolts changed their tactics with the aim of protecting those 7 players who had made it this far into the game. Instead of Salina Black, it was Chaos Warrior Snurg "The Great" to field the kick-off. Perhaps the aim was to ensure a more difficult target to tackle than the Wood Elf had proven. It didn't work as Snurg's lack of co-ordination led to an unforced fumble and a turnover that the Mutineers took advantage of. Having helped set up the last score, Boa Dicea took up the running for herself. Un-opposed, the Amazon cruised down the field and in for the third score of the game. With no more time left, a 3-0 home win puts the Mutineers in an extremely strong position for qualification for the post-season. The Dolts are up against it now for the rest of the season and will need to win all three remaining games in order to qualify. The away team never recovered from the initial casualty barrage inflicted by the Mutineers. The damage was far more limited for the remainder of the match but by then it was too late. Failing to pose questions for the rock solid Mutineers defence does not bode well for the Dolts potential this season.
