Everything was locked in the ADF North heading into week 2 following the pair of 2-2 draws produced in the first round of fixtures, the only conference where that was the case. The past form between the Stealers and Bomb Squad favoured the visitors who were 3-1 victors the last time out but in the corresponding fixture from last season, the match resulted in a 0-0 draw.
A home record crowd of 80,000 pitched up in the mist for the game, and they were rewarded with 5 touchdowns. The first of those scores came very early on as the Bomb Squad appeared to be pumped up for the start. Accusations of illegal drug use have been thrown out by league offices where a "don't ask, don't tell" policy is in force. The Stealers were flat-footed against the drive and despite receiving, Johnny "John Long" Bomb was sacked deep in his own half. The turnover was capitalised upon by Seef-Orr who ran in the score.
The two teams traded touchdowns for the rest of the half, first the Stealers through Ninja Xiao Xiao following a touchback, then a free-running Mark Boese received from Seef-Orr who had found the surface surprisingly slippery but was able to deliver for Boese to register his first career touchdown. It would also be his last. The Stealers fans clearly objected to Boese, and a rock came crashing in from the crowd striking Boese as he lined up for the resulting kick-off. He was killed instantly by the strike and becomes the first Bomb Squad player to be entered into the shrine.
The Stealers were able to capitalise thanks to Schnoo Schnoo who ran in a pass from Johnny Bomb before the half making the score two apiece at the interval. During the break, the mist rolled in slightly deeper impairing vision slightly. It clearly had an effect on the Stealers who were unable to put an effective drive together in the gloom. The handling was perhaps difficult for the players with fumbles occuring on both sides until Seef-Orr showed his class with the second score, escaping a series of tackle zones. The visitors found themselvs unable to reply, handling and footing errors ending their hopes and ending the game.
The result marks the first time the Revenue Stealers have lost a regular season game, and also the first time that the Bomb Squad have ever won one. The Stealers had never previously conceeded 3, while the Bomb Squad had not reached that number before. The Bomb Squad recorded their victory despite throwing a mere 12 blocks, with 6 knockdowns.
As well as losing Mark Boese permanently, the Bomb Squad will be sweating on the fitness of Mom'Ra who has a 60% chance of making the next fixture after suffering a twisted elbow. The Stealers will be without Dioufi for the next two matches with a quadricep pull.
