Rain at The War Saw did not deter a sell-out crowd with 6,000 fans being turned away. The reigning three time ADA East champions the Mutineers are always a big draw but there were some hopes that this might be the season where The Darkstalkers finally overtake them at the top of the Conference. With both sides having made the post-season in 2005, these are the two sides tipped by most pundits as likely to return again this season.
The match resulted in a draw but looked anything but level despite the 0-0 score at the half. The Mutineers more physical play had dominated the opening period but a last minute stink bomb had kept Merik Crooks out of the end zone. However, the Stalkers recovered players well at the break and took control of the game in the second half with a well-worked score from Splinter, his 22nd career touchdown and the player who has scored more than any other against the Mutineers. A comeback to draw in the dying moments of the game through Fester Rustblade was aided in part by the play of Zzharg Zzhargson who defied critics comments that he is too old and broken down with three casualties in the game.
Savogand Thrall and Joanie Brawler of the Mutineers as well as Cre'atarin of The Darkstalkers were unable to report for the match due to niggling injuries.
